Ferrari believes that its chances of winning the constructors’ championship title are still high despite a disastrous Singapore Grand Prix that saw Lewis Hamilton take a significant advantage.
An error in Felipe Massa’s pit stop, where he took off with the refueling hose still attached, followed by Kimi Räikkönen’s crash four laps before the end of the race, are attributable to the team.
Ferrari is now one point behind McLaren in the constructors’ championship, and Massa is seven points behind Hamilton in the drivers’ standings. The Briton can therefore afford to finish second in the last three races to win the title.
But the Scuderia is not giving up. Team principal Stefano Domenicali stated: “We have three races to go and we are aiming for a one-two finish in each of them. We have the potential to do it. The objective is very clear.”
« It’s not easy, but we must not forget that we have overturned very difficult situations in the past. »
« The team is very strong, but unfortunately, it’s possible to experience moments like the one in Singapore. But two hours after the race, we were already motivated and eager to be in Japan. »
Being realistic, Räikkönen can no longer win the championship to achieve a double, but Domenicali has stated that he is certain the Finn will do everything possible to help Massa secure the title.
« I’m pretty sure about what he has left to do. He struggles because he’s part of the team, I have no doubt about it. »
