Renault’s technical director Bob Bell is convinced that his team is doing everything possible to persuade Fernando Alonso to stay next season.
The French car manufacturer has ended two years of drought as Fernando Alonso won the Singapore Grand Prix.
And even if the Spaniard claims he is still mulling over his options for 2009, with BMW-Sauber and Honda Racing reportedly interested in his services, Bell believes that Renault has done enough to erase doubts about the potential of their cars.
« To be honest, I’m sure Alonso would undoubtedly be better with us rather than with Ferrari or McLaren for next year, » said Bell.
« I believe that we have made a lot of efforts on the track to show that the team is returning to its best level. »
« I hope we will have done enough to convince him to stay with us. »
« Our progress in qualifying since the Melbourne Grand Prix is undeniable. Our objectives are on track to be fulfilled with a fourth place in the championship. It is possible to achieve a few podiums in place of BMW, » he concluded.
