After speaking with the team during the season, Fernando Alonso stated that a move to the BMW Sauber team in 2009 was not realistic.
The Spaniard, who is free to leave Renault based on a performance clause in his contract, always knew that BMW would retain the same lineup for 2009 with Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld. Both drivers were officially confirmed on Monday.
« That was never a serious approach because the team is satisfied with its drivers, » said Alonso.
For me, it is not time for discussions because I prefer to wait for the end of the season and focus on driving my R28. That is my job this year.
« When I am in Brazil for the last Grand Prix, I will make my decision public. I have a contract with Renault for next year but I have the opportunity to leave if I want to. »
« I want to focus on my driving. I know the media is waiting for me, but I still have three races to go and I want to do the best job possible, » he concluded.
