BMW’s dreams have completely vanished

BMW-Sauber technical director Willy Rampf claims that his team must keep their heads held high and not regret what happened in China.

Robert Kubica was unable to make up the 12-point deficit he had behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton. The Polish driver’s goal was to arrive in Brazil with a chance of becoming world champion, but mathematically all hopes were dashed after the Chinese Grand Prix. The same goes for the constructors’ championship, with BMW-Sauber losing further ground to Ferrari and McLaren.

This situation therefore means the end of hopes in 2008, but Rampf stated that the disappointment was nonexistent.

« No disappointment. Of course, it is very nice to fight for the championship, but in general, we are always competing with the two teams in front. »

We will do our best in Brazil and I look forward to being there. We should not be disappointed with what we have accomplished this year.

Rampf also praised Kubica’s efforts this season, who impressed with his consistency.

« He did an excellent job, really an excellent job, » explained Rampf.

« He did not make any mistakes, he is very consistent in his conduct and is also very skillful, particularly at the starts. »

« Then, during the race, he sometimes questioned himself, which means the driver has the mental capacity to do so. He’s a very fast driver but also a very intelligent driver. »
