Renault’s boss, Flavio Briatore, has asked his team not to let up in their efforts as they experience an impressive end to the season.
The progress made by the team based in Enstone, combined with Fernando Alonso’s strength of character with his victories in Singapore and Fuji and his 4th place in Shanghai last weekend, allowed Renault to secure fourth place in the Constructors’ World Championship.
Even with this satisfaction, Briatore believes that improvements must continue if the team wants to be at the center of discussions for the world championship in 2009.
« I think that now we need to maintain this momentum and make sure that we deliver the same performances with next year’s single-seater, » said Briatore.
Renault started the season and was struggling to get into the points, but numerous improvements on the R28 led to two consecutive race victories towards the end of the season. The French car manufacturer remains behind Ferrari, McLaren, and BMW-Sauber this season, but Briatore is happy with the results achieved.
« Yes, I am very happy because Renault has improved over the last six or seven races. I believe that since the French Grand Prix, we have been on the scene. During this period, Fernando Alonso has scored more points than anyone else except Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa.
« We achieved two victories, we have a second place with Nelson Piquet. I think at the moment, we are the third force because we are doing a bit better than BMW. »
