Mario Theissen, director of the BMW-Sauber team, stated that his team is focusing entirely on the 2009 car. Since the last Grand Prix in China, Robert Kubica can no longer win the world championship as there is only one race left on the calendar, the one at Interlagos in about ten days.
The Pole is 19 points behind Lewis Hamilton, and the German team is 21 lengths behind Ferrari, which leads the Constructors’ Championship. Theissen admitted that the focus is now on the BMW-Sauber F1.09 and the introduction of KERS.
When asked if all the developments on the car will be available for the final race, Theissen said: « We are going to change some aerodynamic alignments because we will be on a different circuit than in Shanghai. We will be, once again, tempted to achieve the best possible performance. »
And regarding the work on the BMW Sauber F1.09, the German added: « I believe we are on the right track. The design work is ongoing and we are on schedule to complete our aerodynamic development. »
« We have tested the KERS over the past few weeks. This work is also ongoing. »
