The meeting between Ecclestone and the Mayor of Montreal

After a meeting with Bernie Ecclestone, which took place today in London, Montreal mayor Gérald Tremblay declared that he was optimistic about the chances of seeing his city on the 2009 Formula 1 calendar.

Tremblay spoke with Ecclestone for two hours to understand the reasons for the race’s withdrawal.

Speaking to local media, Tremblay explained: « We have a better understanding of the financing issue for our race. We still have a lot of work to do to evaluate all options, but it is still possible to hold a Grand Prix in Montreal in 2009 and in the following years. »

The representative of the city of Montreal must now develop a plan to regularize the event’s finances.

The Minister of International Trade, Michael Fortier, added: « Many people have offered their help. In the coming days, we will determine whether or not the Grand Prix will survive and who will be its promoter and organizer. »
