Rubens Barrichello does not consider the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix as his last F1 meeting.
The Brazilian broke Riccardo Patrese’s record this year for the most races contested in the sport’s history. He is now awaiting Honda’s response regarding his future for 2009.
The current season ends in his hometown of Sao Paulo, and he doesn’t want to think about the possibility that it might be his last start at the age of 36.
« I don’t want to see this Grand Prix as my last race, » declared Barrichello.
« It’s just another Brazilian Grand Prix, which is always fantastic because it exudes a tremendous energy conveyed by thousands of fans. »
He also refuses to talk about his possible 17th consecutive season in 2009 amid rumors of him being in talks with Toro Rosso.
« I do not wish to bid farewell to racing yet, » he added to the Associated Press.
« I’m just going to try to have a good race. Interlagos will see thousands of supporters arrive to cheer for Felipe Massa and myself.
Barrichello began his Formula 1 career with Jordan in 1993, before moving to Stewart in 1997. He then joined Ferrari in 2000, where he played the role of ‘number two’ alongside Michael Schumacher before moving to Honda in 2006. He won nine Grand Prix races with the Scuderia.
