Hamilton triggers hysteria in English box offices

Lewis Hamilton, recent Formula 1 world champion, is reportedly the reason behind the exceptional ticket sales for the last British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

In the week following the Brazilian Grand Prix that closed the 2008 season, the Silverstone circuit announced that it had sold a little less than 22,000 tickets for the 2009 race, which is 10 times more than usual for a first week of November.

Richard Phillips, managing director of the Silverstone circuit, stated: « The reaction from the fans since Brazil has been incredible. »

« We have always noticed an increase in sales when Lewis won a race or if one of the British drivers performed well. The level of ticket sales for this week has exceeded all expectations. »

« We are already looking forward to seeing him here at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix next June. The atmosphere will be incredible, » he added.

This event will take place from June 19 to 21 and will be the last on the Northamptonshire circuit as, starting in 2010, the British race will be held at Donington Park.
