Some thought that Bernie Ecclestone was slowly approaching retirement. They are mistaken…

The 78-year-old man, who is in the process of divorcing his wife Slavica, insists that he has no intention of giving up his powerful position in F1.

« Never, never, never, » he stated in an interview with Gulf News about the possibility of retiring.

The Chinese Grand Prix indicated a few days ago that it might consider not renewing its contract beyond 2010 due to low ticket sales.

Ecclestone wished to comment on this subject: I can’t believe there is a country in this world that doesn’t want a Grand Prix. If you knew the list of countries wishing to host an event, you would be amazed. It’s astounding.

The financier of F1 also expressed his support for the circuits located in the Middle East, speaking of Abu Dhabi as a future great success.

« Bahrain is a fantastic success that will soon be joined by Abu Dhabi at the end of next year. »

« In Bahrain, they spent $150 million (or nearly 120 million euros) and it took six months to complete the project. But in the end, the teams, celebrities, and spectators are all thrilled with this event, » added the Briton.

« It will be the same, I am certain, with the Abu Dhabi project. I must admit that my contract conditions are quite strict, but Formula 1 is a fantastic sport that demands the best of everything. »
