Takuma Sato is convinced that Toro Rosso can maintain its 2008 performance level for the upcoming season. The challenge would therefore be to consistently score points.
The 31-year-old Japanese, who is a direct competitor for a spot with the STR, completed his third test for the team at Jerez. He believes that despite the challenge of the new regulations, Toro Rosso will continue to make progress in 2009.
« The team has been constantly improving in Formula 1, which is a very difficult thing to do, » said Sato.
« It’s a team that never goes backward, each time it moves forward, and I firmly believe that improvements are possible in 2009. »
« Ultimately, it will depend on the other teams, but I am convinced that Toro Rosso will undertake the best work possible. »
Sébastien Buemi, Sébastien Bourdais, and Takuma Sato were all in action at Jerez, but despite the competition for a race seat, the Japanese driver admits he enjoys working with the team.
« I really enjoyed driving the car. The number of drivers involved is greater than two for the two racing seats, so you know you’re competing against someone. »
« But once I’m in the single-seater, I just enjoy it. The human side with the team is extremely positive, » concluded Sato.
