The German team retains its title in the Nations Cup. The event took place this year at Wembley Stadium in Great Britain. The German pair of Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel defeated the Scandinavian team of Mattias Ekstrom in the final.
Schumacher won the first race for Germany against Tom Kristensen with a 0.173-second lead, but Ekstrom, driving the KTM X-Bow, defeated Sebastian Vettel. The decisive point was contested between Schumacher and Ekstrom. The German emerged victorious from his duel, allowing his country to retain its title.
Germany’s journey in this competition was fraught with challenges. The country had to defeat the Great Britain F1 Racing team in the semi-finals. Schumacher, behind the wheel of the X-Bow, beat David Coulthard who crashed into a wall, damaging his car. Vettel, with an RX150 buggy, made short work of Jason Plato.
Germany had previously eliminated the Irish team in the first round, with the seven-time F1 world champion overcoming Adam Carroll and Vettel defeating rally driver Gareth MacHale.
Scandinavia, on the other hand, needed three rounds to reach the final. They were up against the Great Britain Autosport team. Kristensen narrowly defeated Jenson Button at the wheel of an Abarth while Andy Priaulx leveled the score between the two teams against Mattias Ekstrom in his Ford Focus WRC. Kristensen and Priaulx faced off head-to-head for the decisive point in the RoC Car. The Dane won with only a 0.165-second lead.
The Scandinavians had put the French team to the ground during the first round. Kristensen beat Yvan Muller in the Abarths and Ekstrom was better than Sébastien Loeb with rally cars.
