Buemi wants Button as a teammate at STR!

Sebastien Buemi revealed that he wanted to be teamed up with Jenson Button at Toro Rosso in 2009. An unexpected and somewhat utopian piece of information.

Although he is not yet officially confirmed with Red Bull’s team No. 2, the 20-year-old admits in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Blick that the contract is now a mere formality.

« I am already thinking about my teammate for 2009. The best and ideal would be Jenson Button. »

The latter, who is 28 years old and has more than 150 Grand Prix to his name, is currently considering his options after the withdrawal of the Japanese manufacturer Honda.

For Buemi, Button at Toro Rosso is conceivable, especially considering the likelihood of someone buying the Brackley team. Indeed, the cost-cutting measures do not play in Honda’s favor.

It seems almost certain that his place within the small Scuderia is assured while Sébastien Bourdais and Takuma Sato are vying for the second seat.

Since the beginning of the week in Jerez, Buemi has resumed his role as a test driver for Red Bull Racing. He believes that he was the fastest driver among those employed by Toro Rosso last week.

« During the tests in Barcelona in November, I was three tenths behind but in Jerez, I had Bourdais and Sato under control, » he stated.

« On Tuesday and Wednesday Vettel was on track. Three months ago, he was two-tenths better than me, but since then I’ve been ahead because I’ve gained more experience. »

The 2009 Toro Rosso, designed by Red Bull, will be ready by the end of February.
