The current FIA president, Max Mosley, has warned his successors to think carefully before entering the race for presidency. The Briton will wait until June 2009 to make a decision on a possible new term.
Mosley stated for several months that he was considering not running for a fifth consecutive term that would begin in November 2009. There would be pressure from board members encouraging him to continue.
A final decision on his future will be made only in the middle of next year.
Asked on the official Formula 1 website about a possible re-election, Mosley stated: ‘I will make a final decision in June.’
He added that any potential successor should carefully consider the challenges to be faced before officially announcing their candidacy.
Talking about the necessary qualities, the FIA president commented: « A lot of patience and an ability to quickly understand a wide range of technical and legal issues. »
« The difficulty is finding someone who has the necessary experience, but also the time and willingness to do the job. You are talking about Nick Craw. He is the president of the ACCU, which oversees all the different forms of racing in the United States. With this role, I don’t think he is looking for another task. »
And what is Mosley most proud of?
I think my success was the improvement of safety on the circuits. However, it must be remembered that many people were involved in this work.
