For Ecclestone, F1 is not affected by the crisis

Bernie Ecclestone has taken measures to minimize the impact of the international financial crisis on the world of Formula 1.

The Japanese manufacturer Honda has decided to withdraw from the sport citing the crisis in the automotive industry, but the financial chief of F1 insists and asserts that 2009 will be a season like any other.

« It is clear that the global financial crisis affects everyone, including the automotive industry. But there will be no serious impact on Formula 1, » said the 78-year-old British billionaire today.

Ecclestone thinks that each F1 event during the year remains a highlight in the sport, on the same level as the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games.

During a visit to Serbia, he spoke to a local newspaper: « As far as I know, almost all tickets have been sold for every race in 2009. »

A quick check, however, shows that hundreds or even a few thousand tickets are still available for several events.

« Moreover, we have signed two huge partnerships, one with LG and the other with DHL, » added Ecclestone.

« It’s simple: These big companies have understood that Formula 1 is the most cost-effective way to promote themselves and tout their merits.
