Paul di Resta thinks that his chances of being involved in Formula 1 this year are very slim. He is currently waiting for news about his plans.
The Scotsman competed in DTM last season and was linked to a test driver position at McLaren and a racing driver position at Force India for 2009. He also conducted several tests for the Woking team at the end of the 2008 season.
Force India has now confirmed its driver lineup with Fisichella and Sutil as the new F1 testing regulations seriously limit the chances for the young driver to secure a seat in 2009.
« There is a very slim chance that things will happen as I wish, » said di Resta at the Autosport International Show.
« I am involved with the McLaren-Mercedes family, and there are different options. »
McLaren and Mercedes not having a spot for the Scot in 2009, he could be a test driver or race in DTM or GP2. The goal would then be to meticulously prepare for his arrival in Formula 1 in 2010.
When asked what he preferred, di Resta stated: « I know what I want to do and I’m sure everyone has their preferred options. But you have to be realistic and take the best chances at the moment. »
He admitted to being simply happy to have been associated with both McLaren and Mercedes, after a brilliant season in DTM.
« I have a hard time believing how much things have changed over the past year. But, at the end of the day, I’m just doing my job and it’s a job I do with love, » he continued.
« It’s certain that working for McLaren has something grandiose about it. It’s a fantastic team. I just want to try to prove to them that I’m capable of doing a good job. »
