Ferrari has currently ruled out providing engines to Honda Racing in 2009. The former Formula 1 team is still waiting for a buyer.
Ross Brawn, the sporting director of Honda Racing and former technical director of Ferrari, confirmed last week that he had contacted the Italian team to inquire about engine supply.
But Stefano Domenicali, team principal of the prancing horse team, seems to reject the idea during the launch of the F60 this Monday: « I can tell you the chances of powering Honda… the probability is close to zero. »
Brawn stated last week that Honda Racing continued to prepare its car for the start of the 2009 season while negotiations with potential buyers were ongoing.
« I contacted Ferrari so that the Scuderia could supply us with engines, » Brawn had stated to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
« We haven’t signed anything yet, but I really appreciated the support from president Luca di Montezemolo and Stefano Domenicali. They are former classmates: They consider me as one of their own. »
Honda Racing is now engaged in a race against time to find a buyer and be ready for the start of the season. The former Japanese team has made it clear that it does not intend to continue supplying engines.
