Kamui Kobayashi will continue to serve as a test and reserve driver during the 2009 season after 2008.
The Japanese driver is currently leading the GP2 Asia Series and will also be racing in GP2 for a second year with the DAMS team.
« I am really happy to stay with the team and I look forward to the challenge of developing the TF109, » said Kobayashi.
« It will be a new season for me, but I am young and I love driving race cars. »
This season is an important year for me because I want to capitalize on my success in GP2 to really enter Formula 1. It’s a good springboard for a career in this sport. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I will fight until the end.
Kobayashi stated that his ambition is to become the first Japanese winner of a Grand Prix and hopes to achieve this goal with Toyota.
« I know that Japan would be incredibly proud if one of its drivers could win races in a Toyota. »
« But before thinking about that kind of thing, I need to improve and find a racing seat in F1. »
