After his first tests in the new Ferrari F60 in Mugello, Kimi Räikkönen is very satisfied with the Kinetic Energy Recovery System, the KERS.
Ferrari stated last week that it will not use this one for the start of the 2009 season after claiming that it had fallen behind in development.
But Räikkönen, who has just driven the F60 for two consecutive days, finds that the system works well.
« Over these two days, the use of KERS proved to be positive. The system works well, like all the other new components, » he emphasized to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
The former world champion is not sure that this system will have a huge effect on the race.
« You have more power, but for such a short time, I don’t think it will change things. It’s an interesting invention, but I don’t think it is decisive. »
Ferrari decided to test at Mugello rather than join the other teams in Portimao, citing poor weather conditions in Portugal. However, on Monday and Tuesday, the Scuderia encountered rain in Italy. Räikkönen agreed with his team on this choice.
« I believe it’s raining there too. At least here we are close to the factory and it’s easier to send people if necessary. »
