Nick Heidfeld completed his first tests at the wheel of the new BMW-Sauber F1.09 this Friday. He took over from his teammate Robert Kubica in Valencia, Spain, who had driven the car during the shakedown and the past two days.
The German completed 92 laps on the Spanish track.
However, the team was forced to adjust its schedule for the day due to the gusty winds. Heidfeld mainly focused on reliability.
« I finally got to drive the F1.09 for the first time. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are making progress with every kilometer and reliability is already there. Overall, the F1.09 is very different from last year’s model. »
« Fortunately, I managed to work on the setup in the afternoon. The most important result of my first day of testing is that the car reacts as expected, » commented Heidfeld.
The German team will continue working on the Valencia track tomorrow, Saturday.
