The former driver Maurizio Flammini, who has had this idea since 1984, proposed this alternative to the somewhat aging Monza circuit to the city.
« It’s an idea from Flammini that was proposed to Mayor Gianni Alemanno. The latter responded favorably to this request, » a city council spokesperson told Reuters.
Flammini wants to see this Rome Grand Prix in 2011.
The premier category of motorsports already includes three urban races with Valencia, Singapore, and Monaco. The Italian Grand Prix is currently taking place on the Monza circuit.
