Richards will not be the new Mr. Honda!

Prodrive director David Richards hopes that Honda Racing will find a buyer to ensure its place on the Melbourne grid, even though it is no longer in the running for a takeover.

Following the announcement by Honda Motor Company to withdraw from Formula 1 with immediate effect, Richards has been in talks with the Brackley-based team since the end of last year for a potential takeover.

He was unable to reach an agreement, but as a good sport, he still wishes to see a new owner at the helm of the former Japanese team.

« I really hope a solution will be found because a lot of people are invested in this big team, » indicated the Briton.

« It’s a team that has to race and I am always a big supporter of Jenson Button. I think he never had the opportunity to shine and show his true talent. »

The team needs about six weeks to integrate an engine into its 2009 car, so Honda Racing must urgently find a buyer within the next two weeks.

Sources close to the negotiations claim that the situation will be resolved for the Australian Grand Prix. Answers in a few weeks…
