Sir Richard Branson admitted his growing interest in introducing his Virgin brand into Formula 1, but he proposes to buy the Honda team only under certain conditions.
Through BBC Radio Four, the British billionaire was asked a question about whether his company would be willing to save the Brackley team, which decided to withdraw from Formula 1 several weeks ago.
He did not confirm the link, but it seems that certain conditions will need to be met for an agreement to be reached.
« We need to be sure that a new team can make ends meet. Similarly, we would like to be sure that Formula 1 is the champion in green technology. »
According to Forbes, Branson is the 236th richest person in the world.
He welcomed Ecclestone’s remarks earlier this week, stating that Branson is exactly the kind of person F1 is looking for.
« I am delighted with what he said and subject to a few conditions, I might confirm his words, » said Branson.
