According to the website GPUpdate, Brazilian Rubens Barrichello reportedly signed a contract today, Monday, with the Honda team for 2009. He is set to take charge of the team’s new car for a test run at Silverstone this week.
The chances of the Brazilian retaining his seat have significantly increased in recent days. The announcement of the now more than likely takeover of the Brackley team would have worked in his favor.
However, Barrichello had been sidelined when Honda announced its withdrawal from the discipline last December and was gradually being shown the door.
As a result, it was likely to see Bruno Senna alongside Englishman Jenson Button to complete the lineup if Ross Brawn and Nick Fry found a buyer.
According to the Dutch website, this information comes from a source close to the team.
We will certainly know more in the coming days.
