Alex Wurz, test driver at Honda, remains calm regarding the speculation that has been raging in recent months about his team. Indeed, it was considered dead at the beginning of the year before likely rising from its ashes in the coming days thanks to the Brawn-Fry duo.
The Formula 1 veteran confirmed to sportnet.at, an Austrian website, that he remains, in accordance with his contract, the reserve driver as well as the development driver for the Brackley team. His future has been uncertain since Honda announced its withdrawal from motorsport last December.
According to the latest major rumors, the team has been taken over by the existing management consisting of Ross Brawn and Nick Fry, with the new name ‘Brawn Racing’ or ‘Brackley F1’.
It is also said that on Thursday, the new Mercedes-powered single-seater will make its first laps on the Silverstone circuit and will then head to Barcelona for the final official tests before the first GP in Melbourne.
« I will only believe it when official confirmation comes from Japan, » said Wurz.
« With the Japanese, everything can move very quickly, » concluded the Austrian driver.
The announcement, if any, could be made official next Thursday.
