The Italian Force India driver, Giancarlo Fisichella, has warned all skeptics that he is not ready to end his career as a professional Formula 1 driver!
Having endured a miserable 2008 season, he hopes that the new VJM02 powered by a Mercedes engine will allow him to score points.
Fisichella has 13 seasons to his credit, having raced for six different teams. Last year was a disappointment for the Roman as he was unable to score any points in the drivers’ standings for the first time since 1996.
« Last year was very difficult for me, but I’m not ready to hang up my helmet. » admitted Giancarlo while speaking to Autosport.
Optimism is in the air for this new season for the Force India driver: « This year with a completely new car, we hope to be competitive and capable of regularly scoring points, » he adds.
Giancarlo Fisichella is one of the only three current drivers to have driven an F1 car with slick tires and might be able to benefit from this asset in the future.
« Having already driven with slick tires could be helpful. It is important when you have a lot of experience to give your feedback to the engineers so they can go in the right direction. » concluded the driver Romain.
Giancarlo Fisichella has 214 Grand Prix starts, 3 victories, and 267 points scored.
He will start his 14th season alongside the young German driver Adrian Sutil.
