Bruno Senna says he is extremely disappointed with the decision of the former future Honda team to retain Rubens Barrichello.
The nephew of the three-time world champion in the discipline, Ayrton Senna, was the favorite for the second race seat alongside Jenson Button, if the team was saved.
However, the leaders of the former Japanese team decided to keep the 36-year-old Brazilian for another season, leaving Senna without a seat for 2009.
The latter states that now it will be necessary to look elsewhere, but he admits that this realization is for him a step backward. He is even very annoyed by the prolonged duration of the talks with Honda.
« I am not by nature a defeatist but rather inclined to try something else. I had a meeting on Monday with Ross Brawn and he dismissed my approach, » said Senna to Agencia Estadao.
« I am a bit troubled because this situation, which has been dragging on for so long, has caused me to miss professional opportunities. »
« Now, I will focus on my family and my advisors and decide which path to take. »
« Everything I have undertaken will serve me later. The important thing is to keep F1 as the top priority. I will bounce back. »
Precisely on this subject, the Brazilian is reportedly in talks with Mercedes in the DTM category for an entry into the 2009 championship. It was Norbert Haug himself who confirmed it yesterday, Wednesday.
« There are discussions, but no decision has been made, » clarified Haug, the head of the German brand Mercedes in motorsport, for the press agency SID.
Senna was the second driver from the GP2 series to test for Honda at the end of the season.
Barrichello, for his part, insisted that nothing has been signed yet, but the Brazilian veteran hopes to be in action in Barcelona next week.
« My faith, I pray that next week I will be behind the wheel of a competitive car during the Barcelona tests, but I don’t have any document in hand to assure me of that. »
« I have waited for four months and I will not celebrate my victory until I have crossed the finish line. »
