The organizers of the Belgian Grand Prix revealed the declining revenue figures for the 2008 season. They are concerned about such a result, especially since this race in the Belgian Ardennes is one of the favorites among spectators due to its configuration and setting.
Even the Formula 1 teams and drivers admit to eagerly anticipating the month of September, during which the Grand Prix usually takes place. An exception this season as the race will be held on the last weekend of August due to the presence of 17 countries on the calendar, not 18 like last year.
According to RTL Belgique, the demonstration organized last September recorded a loss of 3.8 million euros.
With the absence of the French Grand Prix for at least two years, the directors of the Belgian circuit are counting on higher attendance in 2009. They believe that French Formula 1 orphans will come to attend the Belgian Grand Prix, which is ultimately not very far from the French border.
According to the same source, last year’s attendance reached 52,000 people, which is 10,000 less than in 2007.
