Renault concludes its final private tests before Melbourne

The Renault F1 Team concluded its winter testing program today at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit. For this final day of preparation before the official kickoff of the 2009 season, the team benefited from good track conditions, despite a bit of wind, allowing Nelson Piquet to complete his work program without difficulty.

The team focused on a technical program including work on aerodynamics and the tuning of the single-seater. Piquet was also able to work on race procedures. Thanks to the high temperatures again today, the team was able to collect interesting data that will be useful for the first races in hot countries.

Renault is now preparing to tackle the first race of the World Championship in Australia in just over a week.

Nelson Piquet – 3rd fastest: I completed my very last test day of the season and I’m pleased to have been able to accomplish a good number of laps. In order to prepare for the first race of the season, we worked on aerodynamics and setup and found a good balance. Despite the wind today, track conditions were good and we managed to complete our program. I’m ready to kick off the season next week. We can be satisfied with the teamwork done this winter.

Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer: « The program for this very last testing day was busy. The good weather allowed us to make a lot of progress and Nelson was able to drive well, enabling us to continue our preparations for the season. We worked on aerodynamics and tried to get the best out of the car. We also have answers to the questions we had, so we are satisfied with the results. The team has put in a lot of effort these past weeks and I thank them for that. We had a busy schedule and we are happy to finish this last testing session positively. »
