According to Timo Glock, Toyota is ready to take on its challenge: winning its first F1 race this season.
Toyota arrived in F1 in 2002, with one of the largest budgets – if not the largest – among the teams. But despite the money invested, the team has still not managed to achieve the goal it continues to chase, its first race victory.
Timo Glock, 26, is however convinced that the team has what it takes to achieve it this year. “What I can see right now is that everyone is really motivated,” he told Reuters on Wednesday. “Everyone has to fight, everyone has to reduce costs.”
« But this motivates everyone to fight even harder, our performances this winter have been much better than in the past, » he confided.
« The only way to prove it is to come back to racing even stronger. The goal now is to show the real potential of Toyota and win races. »
And the German intends to start Toyota’s season on the right foot by aiming for nothing less than a podium finish for the season opener in 11 days at the Australian Grand Prix.
« Being on the podium would be great. It’s pretty tight right now between all the top teams, but we had strong performances in testing and we are very confident. »
