The organizers of the Australian Grand Prix have made modifications to the Albert Park circuit following Timo Glock’s violent crash last year.
The German driver had left Australia in 2008 with a bandage on his wrist, following the off-track excursion of the Toyota in the fast chicane (turn 12). The single-seater had taken off spectacularly before bouncing on the track and spinning out to end up against the protective barrier.
A week before the Grand Prix, the FIA confirms that the « exit point of turn 12 has been flattened ».
The vibrator and artificial turf have also been expanded at the exit of the corner, and similar modifications have been made to Turn 6, adds the FIA.
