Alexander Wurz will not be retained as a test driver for the Brawn GP team in 2009, despite his contract, which was validated when the team was still called Honda.
Nick Fry, executive director of Brawn GP, stated that this decision was made from a strictly financial point of view. Although Wurz’s experience is very valuable to the team, Brawn GP simply cannot afford to pay the salary of the Austrian driver.
The agency Apa reports Nick Fry’s remarks: « We are not rich enough to employ a third driver. Alex will still be with us, but he will have different tasks. We want to work with him, but he will not drive for us. »
Furthermore, with the ban on private testing during the season, many test drivers are wondering about their future in the top category.
