Carlos Sainz caught speeding in Singapore
The Ferrari driver drove too fast in the pit lane, by 0.4 km/h. He will have to pay a fine of 100 € for this rule violation.
He is the second one to get caught by the radar in Singapore. In the pitlane of this urban circuit, the speed limit is set at 60 km/h due to its narrowness and danger. However, Carlos Sainz exceeded that limit.
The Spanish driver, during the third free practice session, was caught at 60.4 km/h, which is a 0.4 km/h exceeding the limit, as indicated by the FIA in document 20 of this Singapore Grand Prix.
For having driven too fast, the officials have issued him a fine of 100 €. As a reminder, exceeding the speed limit in the pit lane during practice sessions results in a financial penalty. This explains why his fine is cheaper than the one of Nico Hülkenberg, caught earlier in the same session, as mentioned in this article : [link to “amende nico” article].
But in racing, the stewards impose a 5-second penalty on the race time of the responsible driver. The FIA stewards, who have announced the penalty to Nico Hülkenberg and his team, informed them that they can appeal against this penalty.
