Like many drivers, Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock went off the track multiple times on the Australian grass this Friday, but no major incidents were reported. Toyota will focus its efforts on Bridgestone slick tires, as the drivers went off track due to them and a lack of stability.
In general, the second test session went much better than the first since Trulli and Glock finished the day in the top 6.
Jarno Trulli – 12th and 3rd:
« It was a difficult day because we covered a good number of laps and because there was a lot of work on the agenda. We worked really hard to understand the tires and find the right setup, which is not easy. I am not yet completely satisfied with the balance of the car. Even though we are well-placed on the timesheet, I am far from comfortable in the TF109. »
« Now and for tomorrow, we must work on the setup. In any case, I must say that it’s great to be back in a Grand Prix because I love being behind the wheel of an F1 and feeling the atmosphere and excitement of a weekend. »
Timo Glock – 8th and 6th:
« I am satisfied with my day, but I have to say that the first session was better than the second as far as I’m concerned. During the first session, I had a good feeling about the car and everything was working well. However, afterward, I had some problems because it was a bit twitchy and I didn’t feel as stable. »
« The behavior of the car seems to change between sessions, so we need to examine the data to understand why this happened. We still have work to do, but that’s the purpose of these tests, doing the maximum before tomorrow’s qualifying. »
Dieter Gass – Chief Race and Test Engineer:
The evolution of the track is different compared to previous years, which is likely due to the delayed start of the tests. As usual, the track was dirty at the beginning and then slowly improved in the afternoon.
« The biggest problem we are having to follow concerns the tires because their behavior does not quite match what we expected. Nevertheless, it is a good day for both cars. »
« We haven’t had any significant problems while completing a large number of laps. It’s only Friday, so it’s not easy to judge the relative performance of everyone, but we want to be as competitive as possible. We will focus on improving our long-term performance before the race. »
