A revived championship, that’s what many industry observers are saying. Ferrari is likely thinking the same thing when looking at the performances of Williams or other Brawn GP today.
However, the Scuderia did not encounter any problems today, the first session even went well with a 3rd time for Räikkönen and a 7th for Massa. However, it has not managed to establish itself as it did last year. Is it a sign of change or would it be better to wait for tomorrow’s session?
Felipe Massa – 7th and 10th:
We are more or less good with the setup of the F60, but performance still needs to be improved. I wasn’t able to fight for the top positions with the soft tires during the second session where I made a mistake due to oversteer.
« In addition to the instability of the tires, towards the end of the session, the wind picked up somewhat, which didn’t help matters. Tomorrow, with everyone on the same fuel load, we will really see everyone’s performance. »
Kimi Räikkönen – 3rd and 11th:
« This morning, the car behaved well, while in the afternoon, we couldn’t find a setup, even though we tried different solutions. I think we can improve significantly, but I can’t compare us to other teams yet. »
Luca Baldisserri – Technical Director:
The first Friday of practice of the season always reveals surprises. There are more than usual this year, given the many regulatory changes. Today, we covered a large number of kilometers without any technical issues: Reliability will be one of the key points in the championship. It will be essential to score points after each race.
« After these three hours of testing, we have seen that our long-term performance seems very consistent, but we need to see how to improve performance in qualifying. »
