Report – Toro Rosso can thank their luck

As one year ago, the Toro Rosso team managed to capitalize on the multiple twists and turns in the race to finish in the points. Defending a position often prevails over attacking. For Buemi, the rookie of the season, it was his strategy that rewarded him with two points today.

Like his teammate, Sébastien Bourdais takes advantage of Trulli’s penalty to secure 8th place. Overall, Toro Rosso is off to a good start this season, especially considering it is labeled as the least experienced team for the moment due to its lack of testing on the STR4.

Sebastien Buemi – 7th (finished 8th):

« First race, first points, I am very happy. Maybe we were a bit lucky with the accidents, but even without that, we weren’t too bad. Our strategy worked well and I am very pleased with how the race went. I made a mistake when I was alongside Massa who was ultimately able to overtake me with his KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). »

I’m happy with what happened today because to get a point, I had to handle a lot of pressure. The team did a fantastic job considering that we didn’t do much testing with the car before coming here. It’s truly a dream I didn’t expect on Friday. It shows that we have very good potential.

Sébastien Bourdais – 8th (finished 9th):

« I had a very difficult first part of the race, because after just three laps, graining began to appear on the tires. Several cars passed me. When the safety car came in, it was clear that we had fuel. I think we should be a bit stronger next week in Malaysia.

Franz Tost – Director:

« For Buemi, it was his first race, and he finishes in the points: it’s the start of a great career, his beginnings indicate a very talented driver, and it’s thanks to Red Bull that he is now our driver. »

« In qualifying, he might have been able to move into Q2. In Malaysia, we hope so at least. He was in tenth place after a lap with no mistakes, just defending his position, with the added bonus of an interesting battle with Rosberg. He is on the right track and I think we have a very good driver in our line-up. »
