Ferrari’s team principal, Stefano Domenicali, admitted that the Scuderia still has a lot of work to do to erase from memory the underperformance of the F60s during the Australian Grand Prix. Indeed, Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen both had to retire.
And despite his two retirements, Domenicali believes that it’s the pace rather than the reliability that is currently Ferrari’s main problem.
« Reliability has been a big problem, but it must be recognized that the race results are the result of a lack of performance, » he admitted.
« Thinking about it, with Felipe, we may have employed a bad, perhaps too aggressive, strategy. With Kimi, a good strategy was employed. We must therefore establish a list of priorities. »
« We have seen that Brawn GP is really very, very fast, efficient, and consistent. Under normal circumstances, without any safety car, both drivers would take off in the lead with nothing that could be done. »
Domenicali believes that Brawn GP was rewarded for its early work on what would become the future BGP 001, but the Italian explains that the different characteristics of the Sepang circuit in Malaysia could help Ferrari this weekend.
« There is a lot of work to do. Of course, Brawn GP was better than us, but maybe the situation will be reversed this week on another track. The important element will be to understand the tires as well as the use of KERS, so many things in perspective. »
