The Abu Dhabi circuit denies any potential construction delay

The management of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has denied rumors that the circuit will not be ready in time for its inaugural race next November.

These speculations emerged during the Australian Grand Prix this weekend. It was even said that the host of the last F1 event of the 2009 season could be replaced due to delays in the construction of the circuit.

There were also rumors about a possible reshuffling of the staff. And for good reason, the ‘site manager’ Philippe Gurdjian could have turned his attention to the construction of another circuit in South Korea since the country will very soon be added to the calendar.

However, Abu Dhabi dismissed all these rumors, stating that the construction of the track was perfectly on schedule and that Gurdjian was not leaving.

« Ticket sales for the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix have started. The Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management (ADMM) confirmed that progress in the construction of the ‘Yas Marina Circuit’ was on track. There are no concerns regarding delivery deadlines, » stated circuit officials in a statement on Monday.

« The ADMM trusts the experienced and equally talented Richard Cregan and Philippe Gurdjian. »

« Gurdjian is mainly focused on the development and timely delivery of the circuit. Cregan, formerly the general manager of Toyota F1 Team, concentrates on the financial aspect of the project with the success of the Grand Prix, ensuring that the construction of the ‘Yas Marina Circuit’ is viable. »
