Less than a week ago, Williams, thanks to their number 1 driver, Nico Rosberg, made one of their best starts to a race weekend. The German finished at the top of the three free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday morning. Unfortunately, he did not confirm in qualifying and only scored three points in the race.
His teammate, Kazuki Nakajima, while his FW31 was very powerful, crashes into a wall. There is no doubt that the Grove team will be very competitive again this week, especially since they will employ, just like Brawn GP and Toyota, their magical diffusers…
Kazuki Nakajima – Racing Driver:
« For me, Sepang is one of the most exciting tracks on the calendar. That doesn’t mean it’s an easy circuit, far from it, as there are some complex and quite technical corners like 11 and 14 where your level of braking needs to be different. »
« I was driving in Australia as fast as Rubens Barrichello. The feeling of disappointment that dominates me is great, especially looking at how the race turned out. However, for Malaysia, I am only focusing on the positives, that is, the potential of our team. »
« This race is a little closer to my home country and I find a more familiar culture with the food for example. I raced at Sepang in the Japanese GT formula, so I know a bit about the circuit with its ambient heat and exceptional humidity. »
Nico Rosberg – Racing Driver
« Just like Kazuki, I really enjoy this Sepang circuit. It is fast and fluid and has a nice variety of corners that makes it really exciting to drive. »
The climate makes the race very demanding for the driver and the car. The heat and humidity are extremely physically exhausting. It’s a track where all the winter conditioning pays off.
« Of course, we would have liked to do more in Melbourne, but three points is a good start. What was most encouraging was our race pace, which gives hope for a good season. »
