The Ferrari drivers not yet authorized to fight during the race in Singapore

In Monza, they almost caused a number of heart attacks. Especially among the tifosi. At first, Carlos Sainz resisted Max Verstappen for nearly 15 laps for the race lead. Before battling against the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez for second place.

Lying in wait, just behind, Charles Leclerc could hope for a podium. But for that, he had to overtake his teammate. Something the Monegasque failed to achieve, thanks to a robust defense from the Spaniard. On several occasions, the contact between the two red cars was minimal, on the verge of a collision. A situation that could have sent the Ferraris into the wall.

Well placed on the grid

But in the end, both men stayed on track and Carlos Sainz obtained his podium finish at Monza. Two weeks later, in Singapore, the two members of the Scuderia are once again at the forefront during qualifying. The Spanish driver secured pole position and Charles Leclerc achieved the third fastest time.

Without the Red Bulls, Mercedes and Lando Norris should be the only threats to Ferrari. But with a victory at stake, the two teammates could fight for it. But who could get it? According to Charles Leclerc, Ferrari cannot enforce team orders. But if there were any, both men would accept them.

« I think we will discuss it with Fred [Vasseur, the Scuderia team director]. If in the first stint, we are fighting with other cars, we won’t fight. But if in the final stint, we have a significant lead over the others, which I hope, then maybe we will have the opportunity to fight. But we are waiting for the boss’s decision », Charles Leclerc revealed.

However, in the narrow streets of Singapore, following the car in front is quite challenging, and overtaking it is even more difficult. Opportunities are rare, even though this year, with the removal of four turns, a new opportunity has emerged.
