What a strange Australian weekend for the Toyota team! A disqualification on Saturday afternoon followed by a race penalty that deprived Jarno Trulli of a podium finish and points. Then, a turn of events with Hamilton’s disqualification and the Italian regaining his original position. Several factors to the credit of the Japanese team. Additionally, Timo Glock secured the rear with a beautiful 4th place.
Toyota will have learned from its mistakes for this upcoming Grand Prix on the horizon. Beforehand, it must ensure that its rear wing is compliant and that it has adapted its TF109 to the demands of the Sepang circuit.
Jarno Trulli – Racing Driver
I generally do quite well in Malaysia with some good results in my career here. I approach this race with great serenity. We made a great breakthrough on this Sepang circuit in 2005, when I achieved the team’s first podium. These are very good memories that inspire me a lot at the dawn of this new weekend.
« Of course, one of the big topics of discussion in Malaysia is the heat and humidity, which pose a challenge for the drivers. It’s not easy, but I am in good shape and everything will go well. Our weekend in Australia had its ups and downs, but we showed that we were very competitive, and I hope we can show it again this weekend. »
Timo Glock – Racing driver
« I don’t have much experience with this race in Malaysia because I had to retire quite early last year. However, thanks to the practice sessions and qualifying, I know that the conditions are quite extreme. The situation is therefore very challenging for the cars and tires, but I know how to adapt quickly to changing conditions. I am ready to take on the challenge. »
« I stated before the season that our car would be among the best, and my strong performance in Australia proved it. It’s great to already have big points at the start of the season. My goal is to add more by the end of this new weekend. We have every reason to be optimistic. »
John Howett – President of Toyota F1
The Australia weekend was very difficult for the team but we responded in the best way possible. Our level of performance was proven to everyone. We showed very good race pace, and it is thanks to all our off-season work that we have been able to create a competitive car present once again in Malaysia.
