Guanyu Zhou will start from the pits in Singapore

They will only be 18 on the grid. While they should be two more, Lance Stroll and Aston Martin have decided not to participate in the Singapore Grand Prix following the Canadian’s accident during qualifying.

This Sunday, September 17, shortly before the start, the FIA announced that Alfa Romeo had changed many parts on Guanyu Zhou’s car.

The Chinese driver benefits from a fifth engine, a fifth turbo, and a fifth MGU-H. Each season, the FIA sporting regulations only allow four items of each kind per season. The Alfa Romeo driver is therefore penalized for exceeding the quota. He also has a third electronic control unit. Once again, this is beyond the limit, set at two.

In normal circumstances, these offenses should have resulted in penalty positions. However, these changes were made under Parc Fermé conditions. Therefore, the Chinese driver will have to start from the pit lane, as stated in Article 40.9 of the sporting regulations.

This penalty will change little for the Alfa Romeo driver. Yesterday, he only achieved the second-to-last time and was supposed to start in 19th position.
