McLaren confirmed that the sporting director, Dave Ryan has been suspended from his position by the team.
This suspension comes in the wake of Lewis Hamilton’s disqualification from the Australian Grand Prix as the team deliberately provided misleading information to the race management.
Ryan left the Sepang paddocks during the first free practice session on Friday morning, sparking rumors about his future with the team.
Martin Whitmarsh, team principal, confirmed that Ryan was indeed suspended from his role because of this matter.
« Over the last 20 years with McLaren, I doubt I have met someone as specialized as Dave, » said Whitmarsh.
He has been an integral part of McLaren since 1974 and played a crucial role in the team’s many successes in world championships.
« However, his role in last Sunday’s events, particularly his relationships with the FIA commissioners, has caused serious repercussions for the team, and we apologize once again. Consequently, I suspended him this morning and he accepted this decision. »
