Brazilian driver Rubens Barrichello was forced to change his gearbox this evening in Sepang. The rules are strict, and it results in a five-place penalty on the starting grid the day after tomorrow for the second Grand Prix of the 2009 season in Malaysia.
The Brawn GP driver ran his two free practice sessions today without any issues, but as a precaution, his team decided to change his gearbox. Telemetry indicated a problem with it: this is the first reliability issue for the Brawn GP.
The regulation requiring the same gearbox to be used for four Grand Prix races means that changing it will result in a 5-place penalty after qualifying. Therefore, Brawn GP will not be on the front row tomorrow.
