Red Bull has a good car. The RB5 performs well in the race and, despite the absence of KERS and the miracle diffuser, delivers a very good performance. The team feels good in Malaysia and both Vettel and Webber made it into Q3, thus placing in the top 10 of the qualifiers.
Hopes are high, even though the picture is clouded by Vettel’s penalty received due to a racing incident last weekend at the Australian Grand Prix. The young German recorded the third-fastest time today but will start with 10 positions more, despite a car light on fuel. Rain remains his best ally.
Sebastian Vettel – 6th and 13th (3rd fastest):
« I am very disappointed tonight. The car was performing well throughout the weekend and especially in qualifying where I never went outside the top 5. I set a good time with the third fastest, but it’s really a shame to have received this penalty… »
« I hope the rain can change the game tomorrow and allow me to achieve a good result despite this penalty. »
Mark Webber – 2nd and 5th (7th time):
« Great session! The car behaved well and we are well positioned even though it would have been better to have more space between the cars to set our times in Q3. 7th, it’s the best time I could have with a fuel-loaded car. I hope the strategy will be beneficial for us tomorrow.
Christian Horner – Director
« A solid team and qualifying session today. Both drivers; Mark [Webber] and Sebastian [Vettel] set fast laps but we are still far from the teams with the ‘miracle’ diffuser for now. Sebastian [Vettel]’s penalty is really unfortunate, but I hope he has a bit of luck in the race and climbs up as he deserves. »
