Brawn GP confirms in Malaysia being the revelation of the year 2009: Button is on pole, Barrichello set the 4th fastest time.
Jenson Button secured his second pole position today in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang, establishing himself as the favorite for this second race of the season and the championship. His teammate Rubens Barrichello qualified in fourth place after struggling with a lot of understeer and will start 8th on the grid tomorrow. The veteran received a 5-place penalty for changing gearboxes.
Jenson Button – 10th and 1st:
Achieving pole position in Malaysia today is perhaps even more special than last week in Australia. It’s simply fantastic and it’s a first for me in my F1 career. This proves that the car performs very well on all types of circuits.
« We struggled to find a good balance yesterday, but after a night of work, we have an amazing Formula 1 car today. I really say thank you to the team for their very hard work. Of course, I would like to avoid the rain tomorrow, but we will work again tonight and tomorrow we will be ready for all eventualities. »
Rubens Barrichello – 9th and 8th (4th fastest):
« It was a good qualifying session for the team and I’m happy for Button. Unfortunately for me, my car was more understeering and I struggled to keep it on track. We know the race performance is good and despite the penalty, we can score important points. My goal will be to win tomorrow. »
Ross Brawn – Director:
« It was a very good performance that the team delivered today in qualifying, especially Jenson [Button]. We were apprehensive about the rain at the beginning of Q1, but it didn’t fall, and it’s just as well. »
« For Barrichello, he received a penalty and was struggling with balance. I think his experience will be very useful for him to climb back up and quickly overtake his opponents. Everyone was very close, and with the rain expected tomorrow, the race is likely to be very exciting… »
