To fully understand the situation, it’s necessary to present the race result with the top eight drivers who score points: Victory for Jenson Button ahead of Nick Heidfeld and Timo Glock followed by Jarno Trulli in 4th position. Rubens Barrichello is 5th, Mark Webber 6th, Lewis Hamilton 7th, and Nico Rosberg 8th.
In the individual standings, the Brawn GP drivers strengthen their lead with Button still ahead of Barrichello with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Then, it’s the Toyota drivers occupying the 3rd and 4th places with Trulli ahead of Glock by ½ point (8.5 against 8).
Following is Fernando Alonso, who did not score any points in Malaysia, tied with Heidfeld with 4 points. Rosberg earns ½ point to settle in 7th position with 3.5 points. Sébastien Buemi falls to 8th place still with 2 points, and Sébastien Bourdais to 10th. Webber is positioned between the two Toro Rosso drivers with 1.5 points. Hamilton finally enters the standings with 1 point alongside Bourdais.
In the Constructor standings, there is no change at the top except that Brawn GP strengthens its first place and Toyota its second with 25 and 16.5 points respectively. Far behind, Renault is caught by BMW-Sauber in 3rd place with only 4 points. A gap is forming with the leading teams. Williams is now 5th and Toro Rosso 6th (with 3.5 and 3 points respectively). Red Bull ranks 7th ahead of McLaren with 1.5 and 1 point.
