Assessment: The rain did not help Red Bull!

Red Bull Racing lost at the game of chance this Sunday afternoon. The team was unable to turn the situation to its advantage as the rain, if not the deluge, finally made an appearance on the Sepang circuit.

Ultimately, Webber brings back 1.5 points with his 6th place because less than 75% of the race was completed, while Sebastian Vettel did not survive. He made a mistake on intermediate tires just seconds before the Safety Car came out. He is considered a retirement.

Mark Webber – 6th:

« The stewards decided to stop the race. It would have been nice to have a few more laps to give us extra motivation for the podium. I have mixed feelings. It’s certainly dark at 7 p.m. now, but we shouldn’t question the race start time because the same conditions could very well have happened at 3 p.m. It seems it’s just a bad day, that’s all. »

Sebastian Vettel – Retirement:

« Not much to tell. I was on intermediate tires before the heavy downpour. I was approaching turn seven and all of a sudden, there was a lot of water, but I was very cautious. I lost the car due to aquaplaning and there was nothing I could do. There was too much water and my tires weren’t made for these conditions. »

Christian Horner – Team Principal:

« The rain had always been forecasted, it was just a matter of time. Unfortunately, it started with drizzle, followed by heavy rain. We put our two drivers on extreme wet tires as soon as possible before moving Sebastian (Vettel) to intermediates. Just before the rain, he was the fastest, but unfortunately, he spun off the track. That was the end of his race. »

« Mark made a pit stop for intermediates, just before it started raining heavily, then switched to extreme. If he had completed the laps, we think he would have finished third. However, at the finish we are 6th. »
