Hard to imagine knowing the starting positions of the McLaren drivers. 12th for Lewis Hamilton and 14th for Heikki Kovalainen, but ultimately a point due to the half-points system. The team from Grove once again demonstrates that they know how to take advantage of changing conditions when the race standings are shaken up.
Nevertheless, this time, there must be no lying to prevent losing this first point in the championship. Especially since the Ryan affair is far from over and could lead to a special hearing at the FIA’s Supreme Court to study this controversy in depth. New sanctions could be imposed.
Lewis Hamilton – 7th:
« When the rain fell, it was impossible to drive. I was hydroplaning everywhere; these are the most dangerous conditions I have experienced in my career. All I could do was try to keep the car on the track. It was the right decision to stop the race because it was too dangerous for everyone. I love when it rains, but this was too much. »
Heikki Kovalainen – Retirement:
« My start was fine. I found myself behind Lewis, then I lost control of the rear of the car. It was a mistake. »
Martin Whitmarsh – Team Principal:
« Today’s race was very challenging for all competitors, but, as always, Lewis’s ability to shine in extreme conditions was evident since he scored points. He kept his composure, and the result is positive with this seventh place. It’s not much, but considering the starting position, it’s a step in the right direction. Overall, the team did an excellent job just like Lewis. »
