This morning, the FIA World Motor Sport Council met in Paris with the McLaren team director, Martin Whitmarsh, regarding the events related to the lies at the Australian Grand Prix.
While there have been numerous speculations in the specialized press, ranging from exclusion from the championship to a mere warning, the outcome was rather lenient with a suspension from 3 races with a 12-month probation.
Here is Martin Whitmarsh’s reaction to exiting the council: « I would like to thank the members of the FIA World Council for giving me the opportunity to answer their questions this morning. »
« We are aware of having made serious mistakes in Australia and Malaysia, and I was pleased to be able to apologize for these mistakes once again.
« I was also pleased to have been able to assure the council members that we have taken appropriate measures to ensure that we do not make such errors again, » he added.
As a reminder, immediately after McLaren’s disqualification from the Australian Grand Prix, the Woking team suspended its sporting director, Dave Ryan.
